Meli & Thomas Get Married!

I had the privilege of photographing Meli and Thomas' wedding yesterday.  They are an amazing couple, and it was a beautiful small ceremony of family and friends. Though it hasn't rained here in Vancouver for months, the Rain Gods decided to honour them with a little sprinkle...for good luck. It made for some fun pictures! Here are a few that are among my many favourites. Enjoy!







Golden

I'm quite busy these days completing the final touches on a documentary that I directed called Hell on Wheels. It is about the sub-culture and philosophy which surrounds bicycle couriers here in Vancouver. They're a pretty wild bunch and they risk life and limb to do a job that barely pays the rent. I guess you'll have to watch the film to find out more about it.

Back to photography: so this picture was taken some time last year just outside of San Francisco. I remember I forgot my tripod and it took me a long time to find something to stabilize the camera in the right position; in the end a rock and a pop can did the trick. I didn't notice it at the time but I guess this is why they call it the Golden Gate Bridge. Enjoy.

Moving Water

Time flies like an arrow; fruit flies like a banana. And so it has been a while since my last post. A quick update: I ended up winning the Royale Competition (thank you to everyone that voted for my picture), witnessed that madness that was the Olympic Games here in Vancouver, and recently just got back from Cuba. Other than that, the big news is that I am now in Film School here in Vancouver! It's very exciting to be making the transition from photography to moving images. Some things translate, while others are completely new (the whole camera movement aspect adds a whole new dimension in itself, never mind blocking actors, and directing a crew of people). If I look back on the past few years, my transition to this new medium probably couldn't have been more natural, or maybe slow is the word. From still photography I started making stop-motion videos and then purchased the new Canon 5d Mark II (which has video capabilities) and this opened the new Pandora's box!

Because I'm now working to 'master' this new medium, I am trying to practice as often as possible. A trip to Cuba was one of these opportunities. I've posted some pics but also check out the link to the video I made. Cheers.

Royale Tissues Photo Competition

The other day a friend of mine from University sent me an email advising me to submit some pictures to a photo competition being put on by Royale Tissues. They were searching for pictures from across Canada to put on their tissue boxes next year so I submitted a few pictures from my Tombstones hike back in September (they are in a previous post on this blog) and they have made it to the final selections. Hopefully pretty soon my picture will be selected and you can buy it all over Canada....and think of me when you blow your nose!
