Sticky: South Africa

On a motorcycle trip to South Africa last year, we spent a day or two checking out J-Bay, which is one of the top surf spots in the world. I managed to get some great footage of the locals catching some waves and decided to play around with AE, PS, and Premiere to make something of a mock intro to a surf film. Check out the result: http://vimeo.com/36979874

Knitting on Wheels

In February of 2010 the Olympics were in full swing in Vancouver and the city was overflowing with spectators from all over the world. Traffic crawled at a snails pace, sidewalks overflowed, and there was a lineup for hotdog stands that went for two blocks! During these two weeks of madness, a small documentary crew was trying to navigate the city in order to film two bike messengers as they went about their daily lives. It just so happens that I was the director and co-producer on this film. It was an interesting time to shoot a doc on bike couriers - I think it was probably the heaviest traffic and busiest downtown core in the history of Vancouver. Perhaps we should have done a doc on knitting. We did however manage to get a great doc out of it, that even went on to screen at a few festivals. Ones & Zeros

It's an interesting day in age where you can be located in Boston, MA and get footage from half way around the world, edit it, and send it back across the world, all within a matter of hours.  I've been doing a lot of editing lately for TimeDoc China and the footage they send me is pretty incredibly.  Although, the footage is great, I can't help but think of how awesome it would be to have captured it myself. I'll post the films here shortly... In the meantime, here's a look at my latest cine reel. Enjoy!

Re-Birth

I've been working on updating my portfolio (it's been a few years) and therefore have been browsing through some of my old photos. It's fun to come across old photos that you've long since forgotten about, but now, seeing them in a new light, with older eyes, they have different meaning. Here are a few photos that have been resurrected!

Rock-a-billy in Death Valley

As far as the naming of National Parks goes, Death Valley was given one of the best. Not only is the name attention grabbing, but the park's landscape is as well. The park straddles the border between Nevada and California and has a variety of sand dunes, old dried up lakes, new rivers, and the strangest mountains I've seen. If you're ever in the neighborhood I highly recommend stopping by to take a peek. Here are a few snaps taken at one of the old lake beds. A funny natural phenomenon occurs here when it rains heavily and the wind allows the rocks to get up and have a dance. The trails left behind become evidence of their movement. Enjoy!
