Peel Watershed Promo

Last summer I was invited to join a group of Artists on a 17 day adventure which took us down the Wind River in Yukon's Peel Watershed. Needless to say, it was an epic trip. Here's a video I put together to help them promote a recent show in support of protecting the watershed from exploration companies.  (More info in a previous blog post).

Yukon Quest 2013

At 1,000 miles, the Yukon Quest is considered the longest sled dog race in the world. The trail follows the historical Gold Rush and mail delivery dog sled routes from the turn of the 20th Century. I grew up watching the launch of the Quest every odd year (the start rotates between Whitehorse or Fairbanks), and I remember the excitement and energy as the dogs would be rearing to go. This year I managed to capture the flying snow, endless barking, and drool at 240 fps in full HD. Will post the short video here soon but in the meantime, enjoy these screen grabs!

City Bylaw Video

This year, The City of Whitehorse has some new rules regarding snowmobiling within the city limits and they were looking to put together a short 3 min. video to inform people about the changes.  Working with the agency Outside The Cube, we came up with the concept of two characters in which one follows the rules while the other thinks he's "too cool for school" and doesn't pay attention to them. As a result he ends up in some sticky situations. Unfortunately, shooting in the Yukon in December can be a challenge and after weeks of -40˚C weather, it finally warmed up to a balmy -18˚C so we decided to go for it.  Another challenging factor of shooting up here is the amount of available daylight: sunrise is at 10:00 am and the sun sets at 3:40 pm, so we had to move fast! After a few hiccups, the shoot went super smooth.

Here are a few screen grabs from the day. Enjoy!

Yukon Blue Bins Recycling

Whitehorse, for some reason or another, still doesn't have a curb-side recycling program. Thankfully this is all about to change with the launch of Yukon Blue Bins Recycling. People will no longer have to witness their sheds, closets, and bath tubs filled to the brim with old milk jugs and beer cans. Neighbourhoods will not only look better, but even smell better! Not to mention less waste will make it's way to the landfill. Here are a few screen grabs from a video and photo session we had yesterday to help launch the program.

Yukon Hospital Foundation

I was approached a few weeks back by The Yukon Hospital Foundation to make a video for their MRI campaign. We decided to showcase a few of the many people that have benefited from the Foundation's work. It's a very inspiring and emotional project, with many stories of hope and inspiration. Here are a few screen grabs from the shoot.

*UPDATE: The video has helped in raising the last $500,000 for their MRI campaign and they have now reached their goal of $2 Million. Looks like the Yukon will soon have a MRI machine after all!
