Beneath The Broadcast

A few months ago Something Shows (https://somethingshows.com) and Big Boat Records (https://www.bigboatrecords.com) approached me to collaborate with them on a live recorded music video - the likes of which The Yukon has never seen!

Over two days we filmed and recorded 9 live bands in the basement of the iconic CBC Yukon building. The resulting film “Beneath The Broadcast” exists in two separate formats: one as a complete full-length 55 minute film, and the other as nine individual videos featuring each act.

From Something Shows Website: “Capturing a variety of genres – folk, rock n’ roll, alternative, sacred harp/doom, soul, hip-hop, and grunge – the film creates a collaborative piece highlighting the music and the filmmakers of Whitehorse at a specific moment in time. A collaboration between Yukon-based organizations Something Shows, Big Boat Records, local filmmaker Brendan Preston, and musical acts Jona Barr, The Sputnik Experiment, Paris Pick, Cryptozoologists, Calla Kinglit, LOCAL BOY, The Sweeties, Groan Boy, and Soda Pony, Beneath the Broadcast represents a variety of experience, perspective, and reflections on life through art in the Yukon capital.”

"Gone Means Gone"

Grand Boy Productions got in touch last fall with an interesting project. They brought me on board as Director of Photography and Camera Op for a short video which was part of a non-profit #notmyscoop campaign.  The aim was to raise awareness of the Sixties Scoop in Canada and the impact it had on the lives of those affected. Cody Coyote Music Video

Cody Coyote, a First Nations Hip Hop artist based out of Ottawa was in the Yukon last week to shoot his new music video "Northern Lights" with local collaborators Vision Quest. We decided on a  concept that would show the beauty of the North (Cody had never seen a real mountain before coming to the Yukon) and highlight some of the Yukon FN youth in their traditional regalia. Our first location was Emerald Lake (a 45 minute drive from Whitehorse), known for the emerald-like soil that shimmers below the surface. I suppose it could just as easily be called "Northern Lights Lake" as it fit pretty nicely with the title of the song. Here are a few BTS pics from the shoot. The final video should launch in a few weeks.

Ready, Willing & Able

"The opportunity to be able to do something, even if it's just for a few months, its a lifesaver for me." - Cheryl

Yukon Community Living Association got in touch a few weeks ago looking to create a video that featured Yukon employers and job seekers from their Ready, Willing & Able program. The video aims to encourage employers to hire people with disabilities. Over two days we shot a number of interviews and footage of employees with disabilities as they went about their daily jobs. From a grocery store cashier, to a self-employed dog walker and janitor, themes of teamwork, accomplishment and pride were highlighted throughout the shoot. Here are a few screen grabs. Video coming soon!
