Ground Breaking

There's something rewarding about doing work for the hospital. Not that my other gigs aren't rewarding, but it's a little different when it's the hospital. I broke my collar bone playing soccer a few years back and my ankle a few years before that, and each time ended up at Whitehorse General where they quickly took care of my broken body and sent me on my way. Being relatively immobile for several weeks quickly makes you realize how much we take our health for granted and just how lucky we are to have the people at WGH to help when things go wrong. 

WGH will soon become the first hospital in The North to have it's very own MRI machine! After a successful campaign by the Hospital Foundation (see previous post), and many other partners, the breaking of the ground commenced the other day and they brought me in to help document the ceremony.

CanadaSCORES Vancouver

I was having drinks with a friend a few months ago and he mentioned he was doing some work with a new charity named CanadaSCORES, which runs an after school program for at risk youth across the lower mainland. The program combines soccer, poetry and community service as well as on-going mentoring for students. Right away I wanted to be a part of it. I grew up in Whitehorse playing soccer, played throughout University and even started the first local Whitehorse kids soccer camp during summers home from University - so needless to say soccer has been a large part of my life - to be expected I guess when one has an Irish mother. I asked my friend how I could help and within a few days I was CanadaSCORES' video guy. Here are a few screen grabs from outings with the team.

SS Klondike

A still from a timelapse test. Fun Fact: the SS Klondike ran up and down the Yukon river from Whitehorse to Dawson City from 1937-1950 and was actually made using parts of an older ship (the SS Klondike l) that had run aground. I think they should get it back in the game as a travelling casino!

Thirst Aid

Yukon Brewery got in touch the other week to see if I could do some basic product shots for their new "Thirst Aid" cases. After some "very tough" negotiations, of course I said yes!
